Walmart, The Hilton & Spring Events

New hotel rooms are here - we now have another place to suggest to our out-of-town friends - a brand new 115 room Hilton Garden Inn opens this weekend at Beaufort Town Center. I took a tour at the Chamber of Commerce’s ”Business After Hours” last week and it is a very nice setup. Long views across the ICW, walk to about 6 restaurants and 2 minutes to downtown Beaufort.
The Spring market is approaching and things are looking better for the real estate market. Agents are reporting that the phones are ringing and there are more tourists moving down the streets. This weekend is the Sea Island Rotary sponsored Bi-atholon at Hunting Island State park. It is composed of a kayak race and a trail run and is always a good time - so thanks to the sponsors, the Sea Island Rotary and Jack Cuningham for all the work in putting it on such a fine event.
The big news is that Wal-Mart wants to come to Lady’s Island - the property is in the city, but now there appears to be a zoning question about whether a ”big box” retailer is permitted on the site. Appeals are already in the works but this will probably be a fight.
The much anticipated sale of the S.C. Port property in Port Royal has been extended for a few more weeks. Should that move ahead as planned it will give Port Royal a nice shot in the arm.
I recently hiked up into the Hamilton Village condominum complex on Lady’s Island  - still under construction, but the views are excellent and you can walk into downtown - completion of the first building looks to be about 60 days out.

The biathlon sounds great fun, a kayak is a bit of a novel concept! Hopefully the spring has bought some good cheer for the real estate agents as well as good weather!

My city put up some resistance to Wal Mart moving in, but ultimately caved in. Residents wanted Wal Mart, and on the day they accepted applications over 4,500 people showed up to fill out an application!
