Location
In the heart of the ACE (Ashepoo, Edisto, Combahee) Basin conservation district and nearby similar plantation and environmentally protected properties lies Parker's Ferry Plantation.Twenty-five minutes from Beaufort and fifty miles south of Charleston, SC, the property offers good proximity to schools, shopping, and airports. The international airports of Charleston and Savannah are within an hour's drive. The property is fifteen minutes from Interstate 95. A general aviation airport is twenty minutes away in Walterboro and is capable of handling large business jets.

Property
Offering complete privacy, the property consists of approximately two hundred acres overlooking the pristine Combahee River, and is bordered on two sides by the ACE Basin National Wildlife Preserve. Beautifully landscaped and irrigated grounds surround the housing compound, while the balance of the estate includes river frontage, rice fields, open pastures, dikes, a protected boat canal, and a stunning Oak lined avenue.
Additional outbuildings and structures include a one-bedroom guest cottage, the Somerset Maugham writer's cottage, a covered boathouse, and a covered corral. A large three bay garage/shop and equipment shed offers an unfinished second floor for later improvement. The structures, systems, roads, and dikes are in excellent condition.

History
During the German occupation of France, noted author Somerset Maugham was forced to flee his villa on the French Riviera. The main house and the writer's cottage were built circa 1939 by Nelson Doubleday for Mr. Maugham, who penned The Razor's Edge while living at Parker's Ferry.

Main House
The main house has just undergone a complete renovation including the addition of a pecky Cypress paneled wing overlooking the Combahee River, a new gourmet kitchen with granite and heart pine counters and wet bar, additional porches, extensive millwork, painting and custom murals. The home consists of four bedrooms, and four and a half baths, including formal living and dining rooms, a foyer, study, and a media room. Classic double verandas face an Oak grove and the fields beyond. A two-car garage is attached to the house by a short breezeway and a large brick patio overlooks the river.

Guest House
Overlooking a fourteen acre flooded rice pond, and the Combahee River, the 800 plus square foot cottage includes a fireplace and two decks. The house is ideal for a manager's house or as guest quarters.
