Beaufort Real Estate Owners Fill Their Days With Beaufort Events
Recent buyers of Beaufort SC real estate are often amazed at what seems to be countless opportunities to experience Beaufort’s true flavor. Whether prospective Beaufort real estate buyers are interested in history, culture or having just plain fun, Beaufort is sure to deliver.
Newest on the Beaufort entertainment scene is The Beaufort Kaleidoscope: Film, Food & Fine Art. Starting in February 2007, the Beaufort festival includes a food and wine event with acknowledged chefs, the Beaufort Film Festival and an Art Walk that features 11 galleries and exhibits.
The Spring Tour of Homes and the Fall Festival of Houses offer a peek into some of Beaufort real estate’s most significant architectural jewels and historic structures. The Spring Tour benefits the St. Helena Episcopal Church missions for the needy. The Fall Festival raises funds for the Historic Beaufort Foundation, the organization that secured the National Historic Landmark designation for Beaufort SC.
During the house tour weekends, most of the downtown Beaufort art galleries open their doors for a Gallery Walk that extends until the evening.
In May, the Gullah Festival fills Beaufort's Waterfront Park with cultural delights. African and African-American crafts, music, storytelling and dancing demonstrate the past and present in the life of the Gullah people.
Another Beaufort celebration of Gullah life takes place in the fall at Penn Center Heritage Days in November. Penn Center was established as the permanent home of the first school for former slaves in the country. It grew to become an educational, cultural and community center. Today it houses a museum and hosts special events throughout the year.
Every July at the annual Water Festival, Beaufort real estate owners go crazy for ten days with bed races, raft races, kayak races, boat races, air shows, golf tournaments, concerts, dances and some serious dining.
Almost every Beaufort real estate owner looks forward to the annual Shrimp Festival held in October each year. This is a shrimp lover’s paradise. A walk and run kicks off the event that includes music, arts and crafts, children’s activities and samplings of shrimp recipes by local chefs. Shrimp fishermen even sell their plump delicacies right off the boat.
Beaufort festivals are just the tip of the “artsberg” for Beaufort real estate owners. Beaufort SC has an active and enthusiastically supported Arts Council that works with artists, organizations and educators to bring all disciplines of art to the Beaufort community and to create fresh opportunities for artists in the Beaufort SC area.
Arts in the Park bring music and dance performances to Beaufort real estate owners at Waterfront Park in spring and fall, heralding the dozens of arts organizations that foster the arts in Beaufort. Their spectacular success has resulted in author John Villani bestowing Beaufort, South Carolina, as “one of the best small arts towns in America.”
Beaufort real estate owners also enjoy continuous year-round chamber music, theater, bluegrass, jazz, Shakespeare, dance and visual arts. Black History Month lectures, the Soft Shell Crab Festival, Oktoberfest, A Taste of Beaufort, July 4 activities and assorted parades add to the personality of the happening locale of Beaufort, South Carolina. //
